Gowan’s 15 Leads Chargers in Blowout Win at Kishwaukee

Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) led five Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball players in double figures as the Chargers rolled to an 89-49 Arrowhead Conference win at Kishwaukee on Tuesday night.

Gowan went 3 of 5 from 3-point range and tied for game-high honors with 15 points to pace the Chargers (21-7, 5-3). Vaughn Toyne (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) added 13 points and three assists for Sandburg.

The Chargers also got 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals from James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) and 10 points apiece from Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) and Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb). Wilson also contributed six rebounds and two assists, while Fayhee added five boards and three assists.

Sandburg shot 48 percent (13 of 27) in the first half as it raced to a 36-20 halftime lead. All 11 players who suited up for the Chargers scored at least four points.

The Chargers’ defense limited the Kougars (5-20, 0-8) to just 25 percent (15 of 61) from the field for the contest. Sandburg also had a 48-31 edge on the glass, led by nine from freshman Lane Ippensen (LaPrairie, Ill./Camp Point Central).

Emonte Collins had 15 points to lead Kishwaukee.

7:30 p.m. Thursday vs. Illinois Valley on Sophomore Night. The Chargers’ six sophomores (Jones, Gowan, Fayhee, Elias Akale, Brice Margenthaler and Noah Young) will be honored following the conclusion of the women’s game prior to the men’s contest.
